This book is an absolute breathtaking book to read. The Beautiful Creatures books will have you biting your nails and screaming with joy. As soon as you finish the second book, you will be racing to buy the third. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys the Twilight Saga or any supernatural romance novels because this series will have you hooked by the end of the first chapter in Beautiful Creatures. Once you start reading, you cant put it down, and when you do, your constantly thinking about what's going to happen next or contemplating how you could buy yourself some time to read more. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has not read it and is looking for a book that will sweep you off your feet and have you lying in bed all week reading the whole series.
I wont give up by Jason Maraz is an appropriate song for Ethan to Lena. She leaves him, tries to push him away by spending so much time with John, and says she doesn't want him around her any longer. Through it all, Ethan still risks being a mortal and going through the ancient archived tunnels for the supernatural that run all through the world to find Lena even though she has tried to tell him to stay away because she was afraid of hurting, or worse, killing him when she chose. Throughout the tunnels, Ethan's aunt gives him an enchanted cat who has been spying on Lena and John and as long as Ethan has the cats collar, he can see everything the cat can see. Despite every attempt to push him away and tell him to stop loving her, Ethan never stops until he finds her and helps her have enough confidence in herself to make her choice. Ethan doesn't give up, and that's why this song is so appropriate.
This song relates because Lena was extremely close to Macon, her uncle and when he died, she broke down and blamed herself because Macon gave his life to save Ethan when Sarafine killed him in the first book. As Lena is traveling through the tunnel with John, a new friend who says he can take her to a place where light or dark doesn't matter, she explains to John the way she feels about Macon. I cant help but imagine that if Lena were going to say something to Macon, it would be this song. This is an accurate description of how Lena feels from my perspective.
Better Together by Jack Johnson is a song that is perfect for Ethan's point of view. Lena is running away because she is afraid of hurting Ethan and he is on his way to find her because he loves her and needs her. Ethan wants to help her not be so scared so he is trying to explain to her that he isn't running away because it doesn't matter if she turns dark or light, he will love her through it all. That's why this song is perfect for Ethan's point of view.
Roar by Katy Perry is a good representation of Lena in Beautiful Creatures because through the entire book she is scared and confused and trying to find who she is. At the end she choses and everyone sees her for the first time in her true form. She shows her "Roar", if you will, and finally knows who she is through all of the trouble that has been brought to her.

This song is perfect for this book because Lena has to chose to be either Dark or Light. It is also relevant because Ethan realizes that it could mean a lot of trouble for him to be with and love Lena, but he is willing to love her because he would do anything and help her with anything he could. Ethan knows that Lena will make the right decision and believes in her even when Lena doesn't believe in herself.
Ridley Duchannes is Lena's Dark Cousin who she grew up with until Ridley's sixteenth moon and darkness claimed her. Ridley is a succubus and as we go through the sequel to Beautiful Creatures, you can really see that Ridley doesn't want to be dark. She walks Ethan and his clan through the tunnels to get to Lena before Sarafine can claim her to the dark. Sarafine, being an extremely powerful natural, meaning she can manipulate nature, gains power and as a punishment to Ridley for helping Ethan, strips her of her powers and makes her a mortal girl.
Chicken bones relate to this story because Ethan says in the book when he is spying on Amma one night, that it looks as if she is using chicken bones and throwing them on the ground to summon her ancestors to help protect and give advice to her to help protect Ethan and Lena. Amma also uses them to summon Ethan's dead mother so she can talk to Ethan and tell him to help save Macon from the Orb.
The reason I chose this picture to represent Beautiful Creatures is because in this novel, Amma, Ethan's housekeeper for his entire life, is a witch who summons her ancestors to protect Ethan and Lena as Lena chooses which side she will be on, the Dark or Light. Amma summons her ancestors to kill all of the shadows that Lena's Evil, Dark Mother, Sarafine has summoned to make sure that no one will get to Lena as Sarafine calls her 17th moon out of time and tries to get Lena to turn Dark, Killing every light member in her family.
The reason this picture relates to Beautiful Darkness is because Beautiful Creatures was made into a movie with this man being Macon Ravenwood. Macon Ravenwood is Lena Duchannes uncle. He is known as the crazy old man at the Ravenwood Plantation where no one goes because they believe it is haunted. In this story, Macon is a big part of Lena's life, and when he tragically dies in Beautiful Darkness, Lena is pushed over the edge and chooses to go dark briefly because she believes it is her fault he is dead.
Lemon and rosemary relate to Beautiful Darkness because in the book Lena, the main female character smells of lemon and rosemary. It also relates because behind Lena's mansion, there is an orchard of Lemon trees in a small southern town called Gatlin, where the family cemetery is.

Ethan Wate used to think of Gatlin, the small Southern town he had always called home, as a place where nothing ever changed, not the people, the sights, or the traditions. Then he met mysterious newcomer Lena Duchannes, who revealed a secret world that had been hidden in plain sight all along. A Gatlin that harbored ancient secrets beneath its moss-covered oaks and cracked sidewalks. A Gatlin where a curse has marked Lena's family of powerful Supernaturals for generations. A Gatlin where impossible, magical, life-altering events happen, events that would change Ethan's life forever, or end it...

Together they can face anything Gatlin throws at them, but after suffering the tragic loss of Macon, Lena's cherished Uncle and succubus, Lena starts to pull away, keeping secrets that test their relationship. Now that Ethan's eyes have been opened to the darker side of Gatlin, there's no going back, he is the key whether he wants to be or not. Haunted by strange visions only he can see, Ethan is pulled deeper into his town's tangled history and finds himself caught up in the dangerous network of underground passageways endlessly crisscrossing the South, where nothing is as it seems. As he travels through the tunnels to find Lena, will he survive the dangers lurking inside?
